LDPE is also called high pressure polyethylene production. Feedstock is ethylene gas which is processed in either an autoclave (ICI) or tubular reaction (BASF). Both are high pressure processes up to 3600bar. Products are plastic pellets that are usually extruded to are film from which plastic bags or other packaging material is made from.

The high pressures along with the requirement for a lasting performance and simple maintenance ability makes this a very challenging process for valves.
